Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy FCP upgrade??

I’m about to embark on a new video project and I haven’t upgraded my FCP edit system in a couple of years. At this point in time I’d rather not spend money needlessly but am certainly willing to if it means a much better final edited production. My production involves shooting green screen in a controlled environment (either our studio or location office boardrooms/offices). The framing will generally be a single medium shot of one person – interview style.

    My system consists of:
    Mac OS X version 10.4.7
Processor Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5
    Memory 1 GB DDR SDRAM
Media storage: 600 GB Huge System Media Vault plus
2 internal drives of 160 GB and 250 GB.
    Final Cut Pro Version 5.1.2

I will be shooting using a Panasonic DVX100B and studio lights.

Do I need an upgrade in the edit system to do this well and if so what specifically would you recommend.

    Many thanks for your input.

I’d bring your machine up to OSX10.4.11, and FCP 5.1.4.

The biggest leaps forward for FCP 6 were the ‘Color’ application, and the ProRes codec. Since you’re shooting on miniDV, I don’t see a pressing need to shell out for a whole new rig.

How are you monitoring your work? You may want to look into a broadcast monitor, if you’re not already using one.

Thanks for your input Bill. FYI, I am using a broadcast monitor.
