Fcp Unable to have clean Titles/Subtitles

Hi someone,

I’m trying to put titles/subtitles on a movie that I made in dv. Canon xL1 to be precise 16:9 in the frame mode 29,97 frame rate.

I did some little colour correction on the footage ans afeter a while the footage become blurry. And so it is whit the titles I try to put over the film.

When I start to put the title everything is ok at the begining, the tittle files are clean but after adding a couple of files, I have to do a render and they became blurry as of the corrected clips.

I try to do the files in Livetype and then the with fcp program but nothing works!

Please help me I want to send the movie in Toronto for a film fest, feb 4 is my dead line!!

Hi Pascal,
The problem is the DV codec.
Try changing your sequence codec to DVCpro50 or Prores.
You can set as well “Render in High Precision”.

The problem is the DV codec is very compressed. Also, don’t judge by the FCP screen but rather a broadcast monitor. At very least, set the FCP screen to 100% to have an idea of how it will actually look.

Definitely heed the advice of rendering in DVCPro50 or ProRes. The other thing to look out for is to make sure your text are positioned on a ’round number’ [ie. not a sub pixel/number with decimal – on both the X and Y axes]. You can check it in the motion or the text tool tab. Same goes for positioning in LiveType.

And if doing text inside FCP, use the Title 3D tool instead of the simple Text tool for better control/quality.

Right. This is an important tip that I forgot to mention. Its makes the things easier mostly when working whih Interlaced stuff.
