    Hello,

How would I export a QuickTime 17 minute clip (3.6 GB) from FCP 4.1 to be usable on the Internet? I guess it would have to be compressed and quality reduced considerably.

What is the appropriate export format?

    Thanks

    Dual 867, 2G RAM /
    OS 10.3.7 / QT 6.5.2 / FCP 4.1.1

Hi.. For an ok version I use “Broadband High”.. Should be an option on the bottom of the window, when you are to export the video… I’m using 4.5, but I would think you had the same option.. The best solution is to export using Compressor if you have it.. Which one to choose? Not really sure, But try out just a couple of seconds to see the quality..

    Good luck, Dagfather

Heavy compression, reduced image size is the order of the day I guess.

If you stick with Quicktime, maybe half of people browsing will have Quicktime Player – and a fair bit less than half if you go for the excellent quality-for-small-file H.264.

Mpeg 1 video is widely playable but not particularly good quality, nor small file sizes.

Flash video, especially in recent .flv file format and using the VP6 codec, gives pretty good quality for small files, and the Flash players is well supported in a high proportion of browsers.

    Tough choices.
