FCP to Quicktime issue
Posted by Tony Fields on June 18, 2010 at 4:12 pmI have an iMac (sorry that I don’t have the specs, as it is my home system and I’m, at work)and the problem that I’m facing is that when I export my FCP to Quicktime, ir doesn’t save as a QT Movie file, it saves as an FCP movie file. How do i fix this?

June 18, 2010 at 4:21 pmThey are one and the same, with both carrying the .mov suffix, the only difference being the icon they carry and the fact that those exported as self contained QTs from FCP want to automatically open in FCP on your on your FCP system. Simply right click and tell those files to use QT Player instead if you want to view them. otherwise they work in all other apps exactly the same as any other QT file.

June 18, 2010 at 4:30 pmI’m using FCP 7 and it’s as simple as ‘File-Export-Quicktime Movie’, of course you could always ‘Send To-Compressor’ if you have that installed.

June 18, 2010 at 5:11 pmok. if I want to give the files to someone else in QT format (who doesn’t have FCP), how do I change it, or do I need to?

I think if you reread the posts, you have your answer. The other problem you might have, though, is that the receiver might not have the proper codec. What is the codec of your timeline?

Because you don’t have the codec. Hit command-i to bring up the info while the movie is open in QT.

June 18, 2010 at 6:29 pmHit command-I with Quicktime open, not from the Finder. A little grey dashboard should open and look where it says ‘Format’
