FCP to Premiere cs6 next / previous edit not working in source panel
Posted by Kelly Hunt on August 3, 2012 at 10:34 amHave looked everywhere and am surprised nobody has brought this up.
PP Cs6 has a keyboard shortcut to go to previous edit in the timeline using the ; key. In fcp I used the ; & ‘ keys all the time to hop back and forwards between edit point in the source panel and the timeline panel(they’re right next to JKL so very handy).
I can’t seem to get this to work in the PP source panel even though it works in the timeline (although only back, not forward). I’ve tried to remap keys but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of options for remapping keyboard shortcuts for the source panel. Hope this makes sense. Any help would be appreciated.Kelly Hunt replied 10 years, 9 months ago 5 Members · 10 Replies -

August 6, 2012 at 12:06 amThere is no direct way to get to the Next or Previous Edit in the timeline , from the Source Monitor.
It would be a great feature for its convenience and logic.
I use shortcuts to bounce between Source, Program or Timeline (Sequence)

August 6, 2012 at 9:36 pmI don’t think I explained myself very well. I’m want to be able to jump backwards and forwards along edit points in the Source Panel using the ; and ‘ keys like you can do in FCP. Is there a way of doing this in PP?

August 7, 2012 at 4:32 amHmm..now I am confused …except you may mean from IN to Out Point and there can only be one of each of these.
Shift-I and Shift-O will do this.
There are no edit points in a Source clip.

August 7, 2012 at 10:42 amYeah sorry that’s exactly what I meant and yes you can use the shift I & O keys. However, in FCP I could use the ; & ‘ and when you have your fingers on jkl and then i & o for in and outs it so much easier to use the ; & ‘ with your right pinky finger, as opposed to using the shift key with i & O.
Not only that but in PP shift + I or O only takes you to the in and out points. You can’t jump back to the beginning or end of the media in the source panel using shift + I or O. If you want to jump to the beginning you need another set of keys, which is kind of dumb. Confused yet? -

August 7, 2012 at 1:00 pmI’m also having the same problem. I had my Final Cut pretset up and running fine. I could jump from one edit point to the next. Then all of a sudden it stops working. The preset keys are right in the keyboard shortcuts menu.
Any suggestions?!

August 7, 2012 at 1:06 pmOK! I just figured this out.
Firstly, I think I see why Adobe have decided to create this way of working as it can be helpful. However,
if you’re coming from FCP, it can create a lot of cursing in the air.You have to have the video tracks on the left hand side of the sequence window highlighted to be able to cycle through the edits on the timeline by pressing the ‘next/previous edit point’ key on the keyboard.
There are some benefits for that if you’re making an intricate cut and you don’t want to cycle through a lot of cuts on another video layer to go backward to view the section again. But man, that one made me a little crazy for a while.
Hope this helps for anyone who’s had the same problem.
Best,

August 8, 2012 at 12:23 amNo my issue is really with the source panel.
There are 4 points you can skip to in the source panel if you are using FCP.
The START of the media, the IN point, the OUT point and the END of the media (as long as you’ve put in and out points in obviously)
In FCP you can use the ; & ‘ keys to jump between ALL of these points.
In PP you can only use SHIFT + I to go to the IN point, or SHIFT = O to go to the OUT point. To jump to the START or END of the media you have to use a different set of keys which is dumb.
make sense?? -

July 28, 2015 at 10:18 amDid you ever get an answer to this question – I just made the jump and it’s very annoying that you can’t do this.
Thanks a lot

August 2, 2015 at 10:25 amNo there doesn’t appear to be anyone else except you and I complaining about it which I find strange. I find it very annoying even now after having been on PP for a couple of years.
