FCP to Monitor via Kona card
My goal is to simply monitor video out from Final Cut Pro.
I am using an Aja Kona LSe card and BOB.
I am able to see color bars in the monitor when I select the Test Pattern on the Kona Control Panel, but when I select Input Passthrough I get static.
My connections are: Mac with Kona card to BOB via SDI. BOB SDI out to monitor SDI in. I have also bypassed the BOB going directly from the Kona card to the monitor and have had identical results.
I’ve checked the “Audio/Video Settings”and the “Sequence Settings” in FCP and they seem to be correct, but I’m guessing that’s the source of the problem.
Would appreciate suggestions. Thanks!

Hit control-q and choose the AJA kona easy setup that matches your sequence settings and footage.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried that but it didn’t work. I must be doing something wrong, but can’t figure out what it is.

OK
Passthru assumes that there is another signal being sent to the deck. Think of it as E-E, so if you are not sending a video signal to the deck there can be no signal back out.

Okay. I think I understand, but I do not have any decks hooked up.
I’m just trying to get video out of Final Cut to an external monitor.
I have tried setting the Kona default output to “Black” and “Hold Last Application”, but neither seems to have any effect on getting video to the monitor.
By the way if I am overcomplicating this, let me know.

Not out of FCP. In FCP, set the View > External Video menu to all frames.

“Input Passthrough” on the AJA Kona Control Panel means that the Kona board will ignore the computer (i.e. FCP) and simply “pass through” whatever signal is being fed into the card. I.e. from a VTR or a Camera. So by selecting this option, you told the Kona to ignore Final Cut Pro.
You should not select Input Passthrough for use with Final Cut Pro. Simply leave it set to Test Pattern or Black.
Then select the correct AJA Kona Easy Setup and the Kona board will automatically set up for the correct output.
