  • FCP to Livetype Stumper again!

Hello – I’ve tried this in 3 FCP and Livetype forums but this seems to be a stumper = When I right click on a livetype file in the FCP HD timeline and chose “open in Editor,” it opens the ipr file in a new window in front of and over the viewer window, as opposed to opening it in LT (as I assigned to LT editor in system settings). This file was designed in FCP 4.1. The message to update the 4.1 project to the new FCP HD version was clicked, so I thought it would be able to operate this finished 4.1 project from a few months ago the same way in FCP HD. Why doesn’t my FCP 4.5 open ipr files directly into Livetype? When I “open in editor” photos or audio, phtotoshop or peak bias opens as per my settings – but not Livetype (anymore). I’ve re-downloaded LT 1.2 from Apple web site, still no good – last week I did unfortunately download QT7, OVERWRITING ALL QT6 benefits, would this have something to do with it?

It opens the ipr in a new self contained window, calls it its name.ipr, and has video, filters, motion tabs on top…definitely Livetype is set as my external editor in system settings…very frustrating..anyone here know what’s happening?

    1.8 G5, FCP 4.5, 1 gig ram, latest panther

    Thanks

So, why not try just opening the file in LiveType from the finder, and resave it as a LT 1.2 file. You don’t have to open the livetype files from FCP. But you will have to reconnect them after updating. In this case, that’s probably exactly what you need to do to reestablish the connection. You might even just need to open the file in LT 1.2, resave it, and reimport and replace it in FCP.

But these are just the immediate things that would come to mind.

Thanks Bret for reply – can you believe it, been through so much and nothing makes this work as it used to – tried saving the file in LT, closed LT, it updated in FCPHD, did a right click on the clip in timeline, it again opened it up in a new pop up window as described in first message.

Still not opening LT file up in LT from FCP HD timeline! Tried repairing permissions – no change. I’d hate to have to replace manually all LT files (as you rightly suggested) since FCP HD is supposed to reconnect and open these LT files appropriately, if correct external editor is chosen.
