FCP to HDMI
Posted by Adi Ell-ad on December 17, 2009 at 2:59 pmAloha,
I am running FCP on a MacBookPro.
Looking into an HDMI monitor solution.
What is the best?
AJA Io Express
Vs.
Matrox MXO2 Mini
Is there anything else out there?

MOTU HDX-SDI. And the IOHD…but that is far more expensive than the IP Express….and doesn’t work with COLOR.

Not true Shane,
All aja products have the ability to output Bars via any of the outputs.
All you need to do is set the Kona Control to output Bars and it will.
the only caveat is you need to have the Kona control panel app in the foreground.

December 18, 2009 at 4:31 pmThanks for all the info. This really helps.
I am liking the MXO2 and the price.
Did anyone calibrate a TV set with the AJA Box?

That wasn’t what I meant Gary. The MXO has an INTERNAL calibration tool. You can adjust chroma, contrast, brightness so that you can balance the monitor…properly calibrate it to bars. The AJA products don’t do this…they rely on the monitors ability to do this.

If all you need is a HDMI monitoring solution then you found the right one with the MXO2 Mini. I’d recommend getting the one with H.264 encoding built in. It runs for $850 …. still less expensive than the AJA box.An Artist At Heart.

December 20, 2009 at 2:45 pmThank you Mario. I am thinking after hearing all of you guys the MXO2 is the winner.
I can do the H.264 from FCP. Is it better with the MXO2?
