    Hi,

I’m very new to all this, and I hope someone will take the time to help me out. I work with a small indie production company and we are just getting our first film to the festivals. Well, most of them are requiring a DigiBeta format. We are planning to make three films this year. The question is: is it better to get our own equipment and do this instead of having to hire a posthouse everytime?

    Thanks

    Terrell

DigiBeta Recorders are just too expensive to warrant a purchase for three films. I’ve had my company for 8 years now and only own a Sony J3 DigiBeta Player because I just don’t want to spend that much for an SD recorder.

There are wonderful companies like CineFilm here in Atlanta where you can simply send them your Final Cut Pro Project file or a self contained Quicktime Movie and they will lay that off to DigiBeta, HD, Film or whatever your project requires.

This is what I do for HDCAM Masters, they are far cheaper than me purchasing the deck itself at this time.

Lots of companies in the UK will do this too. Alternatively, you can turn your edit into an online suite, with a capture card like an AJA Kona or Blackmagic, then hire the deck, its around £110 in the UK.

    cheers
