HI, I was wondering if anyone had worked out a workflow for FCP and AFX in CS3. I start with DVCproHD 720 24p and FCP loves it. Now I’m trying to use the Green screen keyer in AFX and bring it back to FCP for finishing. Everything I’ve tried so far gets bent out of shape or screwed up some other way. Any ideas? Thanks, I have till Friday to make it work:)

I go back and forth from FCP to After Effects CS3 all the time, usually using DVCPRO HD footage also. You’re going to have to be more specific about your problems though as I don’t understand what “bent out of shape or screwed up some other way” means. Give me some examples of what’s going wrong. Are the problems after rendering out of After Effects? If you’re keying out footage and saving it with an alpha channel then you’re obviously not rendering back to DVCPRO HD from After Effects – so what codec are you using? The more info you give, the better.

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping that the DVCproHD codec would support an alpha channel, and the process would be easy. By bent out of shape I mean the aspect ratio seemed to change.
What codec would be good for taking DVCproHD footage, sending it to AFX for keying or special FX, then bringing it back to FCP for compositing and finishing. Thanks for your help.

[David Hurd] “I was hoping that the DVCproHD codec would support an alpha channel,”

Only the Animation codec supports an alpha channel.
