Well, it could not be as huge as I think, if something is wrong here with our setup, but….

Check out the page I posted:

    https://www.visiontracks.com/compressortests/

What is going on here???? Is this something we all know, and I missed it? Or, is something wrong with my computer? Whatever the case, I will be using export quicktime then to compressor from now on.

Let me know what you all think..

huh. looks like that gamma problem that seems to pop up all the time – especially with people using blackmagic codecs. depends on his setup. i’d recommend doing your own test.

Update link to explain the setup here. CharlieX2, I think you misunderstood me, these are my tests… Unless you were telling others to run their own tests, in that case, nevermind.

Also, that would be ineresting to see if others have the same problem, running thier own tests.

what’s your setup? what flavor of media are you coming from? RT effects? what’s the setting in video processing?

I just tried this test with 10 bit uncompressed, and the resulting m2v was exactly the same. FCP 5.0.4.

System… G5, All the current updates to the os and final cut pro studio.

Source: DVCPRO-50 30p capture via SDI from deck to KONA-2 to fcp (dvcpro-50 codec in fcp).

No effects placed on clip, DVCPRO-50 NTSC default setting from FCP and KONA setups.

Are you viewing the High Quality version of the QT output? By default it will not export at high quality. You have to enable High Quality in the Window>Get Movie Properties dialog.

I noticed this some time back. Does it on the DV codec too so I don’t think the Decklink / Kona cards make any difference.

i recognized the problem in earlier releases and posted in this forum a few weeks ago. i’m working with the aja io-box and tried all possible options. since there i always export via quicktime-export and then put it into the compressor.

I read on the cow i think, a while back about exporting a reference then importing into compressor. The reasoning was, if i remember correctly, because compressor was a pretty buggy then and also for convenience sake. That way fcp isn’t tied up while compressing.

I think that is what I am going to do for now on…

I burned tests to a DVD and tried them on some different sets with different players, and every time the reference looked better then the direct one.
