  • FCP to AE and back – slight aspect ratio change.

I am using FCP 5 and AE 6.5. when I export a DV clip from FCP 5 as a qt, bring it into a DV seq in AE and render back out- and bring into FCP – the image is horizontally stretched a few pixels, and the image is generally softer. This is with no filters, and FCP is not scaling or distorting the new AE clip.

Any thoughts? this is with 10.4.2

I’m actually adding some spotlights to a concert film with Lux, and the effect is great, but I am loosing image quality in the round trip.

I haven’t found that problem(yet), so the only thing I can offer is that FCP thinks the NTSC pixel aspect ratio (PAR) is 8/9, whereas AE thinks it is 9/10. Apparently, it’s actually supposed to be 10/11. Hmph.

So all your comps and render settings are DV, 720×480, D1 PAR?

Indeed. That explains the DV fugliness, but how about the stretching?
