FCP to AE and back again.
High there, folks!
(I know this involved two programs, but the problems are so intertwined….)
I learned all of my editing on Adobe Premiere, so Final Cut is still new to me.
Ok, I have Final cut Pro 4, and Adobe After Effects 6. I also have a whole slew of widescreen footage captured for an 8mm DV camera. The footage is all edited, and set in a Sequence with the default DV NTSC 48 KHz Anamorphic. Now, here’s the thing. If I open the footage in quicktime normally, and measure the dimensions of the window, it’s 720×480, and everything looks slightly stretched up. If I measure the window in Final Cut, it’s 720×405, and nothing is distorted. And yet, if I export the scene, it looks just like the raw footage. How do I get it to export in the proper widescreen format?
Next: I’ve been exporting without changing any settings so that I can add effects with After Effects. However, I can’t seem to make a composition that fits the footage. I tried setting it up as 720×480 anamorphic, but when I put the footage into the composition, it was almost sqaure. I stretched it sideways, and it looked normal again. Then I exported. When I tried to import it back into Final Cut, it was almost square, with black bands on either side.
At the end of all this: Can anyone tell me how to export widescreen footage from FCP, set up an AE composition with the right settings to work with it, and export from AE so that it looks just as it did originally whenI import it into FCP again?
