    Hi

I Am currently having to online a promo without the use of a client monitor (using FCP version 5). When I apply a fade to a title there is a slight judder as it plays off the fade segment. I am using the cross dissolve effect, rather than using keyframes on the clip’s opacity. I would rather carry on working with transition effects rather that using keyframes.
Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it just an artefact that shows in the preview monitor or will it carry through to the playout on tape?

I am working at 8bit uncompressed and none of the titles require rendering.

    All help/ suggestions appreciated

Even though this is supposed to be a real time effect, try to force render the effect and see if that fixes things. Otherwise you’re going to have to use the keyframe method which will work. What type of title is this, a Boris Title 3D title or a crappy FCP generated title. If it’s a FCP title make sure the whites aren’t too hot. You’re best of going with a Title 3D title.

You know, it’s really impossible to tell unless you are working with a video monitor.
A client monitor is for clients – it’s typically a regular TV or the like.
A PRO video monitor is for YOU – so you can make good value judgements on your rendered FX.

    You’re flying blind w/o one.
If you don’t have one, use the best TV you have lying around. Hook it up while you work.
