FCP: Stuttering/Skipping/Pause while playing in Clip Viewer
guys,
i found this comunity about a week ago, but i think i have something that will help alot of people.
Altho it is true that having media files ona separate hard drive from the start up disk(where OS X is installed) is advised, the dropping of frames, stuttering or otherwise bad quality of preview videos just doens’t make any sense. Quicktime will play the video normally, as well as the canvas or output video will be ok. but the stuttering will make it annoying to edit.
Alot of us seem to be getting our video feed from iMovie, although this looks like a nice idea, since iMovie will separate your clips, it also creates a .DV video that FCP just won’t handle. There is a program called COMPRESSOR that does a wonderful job in encoding your videos into other formats. but the one we are interested on is encoding to DV NTSC or DV NTSC ANAMORPHIC (16:9).
After encoding the video these are the differences.
Quality: video can play at higher quality in the viewer. quality between original and encoded video is virtually the same.
file size: the file size on the encoded file seems to be slightly greater than the original. like 1 to 2% larger.hope this helps people.
