FCP Studio licensing problems!
Posted by Maya30 on May 17, 2006 at 1:57 amI work in a production company and we’re trying to install the FCP studio that we bought, but we keep getting this message “Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges.” This is really frustrating because no matter what we do we recieve that notice. If anywone knows the answer to why it’s doing it, we would love to hear it. Thanks!

May 17, 2006 at 2:26 amWhatever user you are logged in under does not have administrator privileges. Either log in as admin and install or give your current user admin privileges.

May 17, 2006 at 2:51 amwe only have one account on this computer and I am not sure we even have a password… what do you suggest?

May 17, 2006 at 5:42 amWhat I meant was give your current user, administrator privileges. If you don’t have a password, something is screwy. You can reset your password if you have the OS X install disks. Or you can try and logout and log back in as an administrator. Who installed the operating system on your computer?

May 17, 2006 at 10:50 pm> what is “user admin privileges”< run to your nearest bookseller and buy not one but TWO OSX Tiger books. Get Robin Willimas, David Pogue or Andy Inhatko's books. If you do not understand how to set up your OS for basic use, you should not be attempting to install an suite of apps like FCP yet. It's not particularly difficult to learn how to drive your Macintosh but you need fundamental training first. Once you understand the OS, using FCP will be much easier, too. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

May 18, 2006 at 5:36 pmDon’t be a jerk. I had the very same problem last night when I was installing a brand new version of Final Cut Studio on my machine. I only have one account and was logged in with administrator priviliges. This error is a legitimate problem and I called Apple Care. The solution was easy.
I had to trash a file called Final Cut Studio ID located in the pro apps support folder in the library… then load final cut and reenter the Final Cut Studio serial number and all worked fine.

Quit Final Cut
In ~/Library/Preferences (the ~ is your username), delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
In ~Library/Preferences/Final Cut Pro User Data/, delete:
Final Cut Pro 5 Prefs
Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
Final Cut Pro Prof CacheTo reinstall Final Cut Pro:
Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the
