    Hello,

I noticed someone had a similar problem posted yesterday but the response did not seem to help.

I have just installed FCP Studio 2 and I am unable to update a previous project. When I do, the project does not recognize the media files. The audio will play but the video will not. The original project was digitized at DV/DVCPRO – NTSC (for offline purposes). I don’t see an easy setup in this vers. that is similar… is that the problem?

Also, when I edit in the timeline, FCP sometimes just dumps out.

I have tried creating a new project and importing the previously digitized files just to see if that would work and it doesn’t.

    Any thoughts?

How did you perform the upgrade? Did you start with a new startup disk or just run the “upgrade” over a previous version or?

    Hello Jerry,

I have purchased a FC Studio 2 upgrade pack so I used those disks to install (upgrade) the FC Studio 1 existing on the computer. I did get an installation successful at the end of the install.

My guts tell me that you need to do a cleaner install… i.e. erase and install OS X, then run software update to get to the latest software, then install Studio 2 by itself. You’ll only need the serial numbers from your earlier version, and the new version… no need to install FCS 1 first.

    Hello Jerry,

Your gut was basically right. I tried to wipe all FCP off and re-install Studio and then Studio 2 but that didn’t work. I cleaned up again, and then installed….. wait for it…. FCP 3 !!! … and then repeated the upgrade path. I restarted and check each version along the way and that seemed to do it. So I at least saved myself a OS install.

    Thanks for your help…
