Just got a new FCP Studio 2 — 8 core, Ciprico Media Vault, Aja Kona 3 — and love it.

Except the HD QT movs I’ve imported all stutter on play back.

They were copied to the Media Vault before importing.

One was compressed using the Aja Kona 10-bit RGB codec, the other using the Animation codec.

The movs play fine, full screen, in QT player

Within FCP, they play fine when either the Viewer or Canvas is set to 25% or less.

I created seperate sequences that match the parameters exactly, no good.

Also, when the stutter occurs, I don’t receive a Dropped Frames warning.

I’m sure it’s user error. Any thoughts on this lone dark cloud?

I had similar issues…turns out its the AJA 10b codec. Its a known problem on AJA’s side. They actually warn against it when upgrading. Send them an email and help hurry them up with the fix..!

    Ouch!

Did you find a work around? Can I use an earlier version of the 10bit codec?

Their suggestion of a work around is to uninstall FCS 2, go back to 5.1 and Kona driver v3.4. The problem for me is that I have edited in FCS2 and would have to re-do everything – the FCP files are not backwards compatible.

Please email them and ask about the fix to the update!
