My problem is with “offline media”. With the exception of a few files, almost all of my media is “offline”; however, I’m still connected to the same hard drive, opened the same sequence etc. The preferences are still set to the same location. When I search for the files, and then go to reconnect them, I’m getting the message… “Some attributes of one or more of the files you have chosen do not match the attributes of the original. This may cause problems within the sequences that are dependent on them. The attributes that differed are as follows: -Media Start and End. Would you like to try to connect them again?”… First off, I don’t want to create a bigger problem for myself, should I go ahead a reconnect these files—if possible—and disregard the warning, or is there a better fix? In general I’m looking for any advice I can get on this, I’ve been working on this project for about 5 months, and it would be a horrible tragedy to loose it. Thank you for your time.
    Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,

I get this problem a lot after I had to re-arrange our backing-up process at my current company. Sometimes even moving a file from a folder to a sub-folder can cause a file to go offline. It is strange if it keeps recurring though as once youve connected the files to the current location then it should stay online. Sounds a silly question but do you save the file after youve reconnected the files?

As for the error message, I would ignore it. I often get this error message when I know the media that is offline is the original file from the bin or timeline. I don’t know why it does this but I would disregard it. You can always select Try Again and if nothing happens then just press continue. I’ve found that if you are actually re-connecting a wrong clip then a second error message will come up alerting you to this (although the actual message evades me at this point) and before you press connect, the wrongly connected clips will appear in italics in the bottom window, as opposed to standard text.

    Hope this helps.

    Danny,
Thanks so much for the reply, it’s a great help. I’m not sure what you mean by “saving the files”—I save the project. Is this what you mean? There are a few more details I can give you. I noticed that inside of my capture scratch folder, there is another empty capture scratch folder along with an empty render files and audio render files folder—do you think this could be related to my problem? Also, I have 4 deferent sequences with this project, all variations of the same thing; however, in my capture scratch folder I noticed that each sequence folder contains different files: For instance, sequence one has day1 day 2 day 3, where as sequence 2 has day4 day5 day6. Now I haven’t changed anything since I started the project and don’t know if it’s been like this all along. I thought, though, that as long as it was the same project the files could be read regardless of what folder they are included under in capture scratch. Does this make any sense?
    Thanks again.

Another problem has arisen with my issue. I ignored the warning as suggest; however now the clips in the timeline won’t render. They rendered once when I used the render what’s needed option, but after saving shutting down, and starting back up they were not rendered. Also, it seems some of the clips are now stuck almost like still frames. When I scroll through with the arrow keys are simply place the play head over a certain part of the clip the image stays the same. This is a disaster, any advice anyone?
    Thanks for your time.
