FCP still image size limits
I recently worked on a project with lots of stills. We did major pushes in motion (not the separate program, that was to come at on-line). When any stills were over 2000X2000 it would crash the program. A 5300X3000 would import okay, but placed in the source sequence and they would normally crash, certain if we tried to scale them.
The on-line editor was unable to fix this and we used After Effects to do the moves. Motion could not deal with them either.
So what is the maximum size? What do other people experience?
For laughs I want to quote another editor:
Here are his guidelines:1. All dimension must end in “00” in the tens and ones decimals. You can have an image that is 400 x 300, but not 420 x 305.
900 x 1200, but not 937 x 1103.2. The picture should have a 1.5 to 1 ratio. This can be achieved by either cropping or padding the picture as needed.
By following these guidelines, my friend said that they were using images in excess 0f 11000 pixels on one side and at dpi’s over 1200.
First of all, DPI doesn’t mean a thing to FCP. Or does it and is this madness true?
