I just brought home a g4 from our studio today to work on a project and I set it all up and started editing and the playback is very very slow. The music plays fine but the video won’t work right. It’s like I haven’t rendered it. I rendered it multiple times, refreshed a/v devices, and made sure video playback is on none. It still stalls. Thanks for your time!

What type of files are you trying to edit?

What are the specs on the G4?
What type of media are you using?
Is the media stored on the system drive or an external drive?
If it is an external drive, how is that drive connected to the computer?
How full are your hard drives.

Will some more info from you, we might be able to answer your question?

They are short clips imported from minidv tapes and one VHS. There are also a couple of pictures.

    The g4 is a dual 800 MHz powerpc g4
    2mb l3 cache per processor
    1.5 gb sdram
    Mac osx version 10.4

The media is various clips imported from minidv tapes, a VHS tape, and a couple of pictures and titles
Everything is stored on a external hard drive that is connected by a FireWire. It’s a 1tb hard drive, with 678.56 gb left.
