I’m running FCP on a 15inch MacBook Pro and I’ve been looking for an affordable RAID solution to use as a scratch disk (so I wont have to tax my 5400rpm internal drive). I found ProMax’s FireMAX 500GB Dual eSATA Drive for less than $300, and it can connect to my Express34 port. But it almost seems too cheap to be true.

Has anyone used this array? Is it reliable?

Is that ProMax a hardware or software RAID? Looks like the latter, seeing that it has two eSATA ports on the back.

I have no experience with that one, but I do have experience with the CalDigit S2VR Duo. It is a bit more at $500 for 500GB, but it is a rock solid unit. Hot Swapable, Raid 0, 1, JBOD…eSATA…
