FCP running on a mac book pro
Hi
I am about to learn FCP. I have been PC based with all my Adobe packages up until now so am finding the switch daunting (financialy).
Would a mac book pro be sufficent to run\learn FCP.
If it is would I be looking to upgrade the ram to 4G?
Its alot of money to step up to even a basic Mac Pro so i would really appreciate some advice as this will be a career choice not a hobby.

I have been running FCStudio 2 on a mac book pro with great success. With an added express 34 card adapter, I also have a SATA raid (along with 4 firewire Lacies) and have been editing DVCPro HD.
I think you will do fine, however, I grew tired of the slowness (not bad, but it adds up) and I am in the process of building a tower system. But my laptop made me a lot of money for a little over a year!!!
Not sure about how much RAM FCP will see/use, but I say if you can afford it, put it in there. Some programs are bound to use it. I have much less, 2GB, which was the max when I purchased.

Can i ask what resolution your notebook is? Did you have to go for the high end one for editing purposes?

I think I have a 1st generation MBP 17″ (glossy–yeah, I said glossy and I love it)

Hi Todd,
My old G5 2x2Ghz still runs FCS2 without problems.
My new MBP Core2 Duo do the same but three times faster.
