  • FCP render wont work on timeline (apple + R)

Posted by Eddie Rouche on October 10, 2008 at 11:23 am

    Hi,

when I press ‘apple + R’ on ANY given clip in my timeline it wont render it if it needs rendering.

My timeline plays clips fine but as soon as I do something that needs me to press apple + R – it flashes up (very quickly) as if it is gonna render it but then cuts back to the timeline (unrendered still)

I can get around this by exporting as an FCP movie and then reimporting it but its very frustrating. can anyone help me please????

My sequence settings are 720 x 576 animorphic. DV PAL etc

    hopefully hear soon.

    cheers

What are your render settings and what are you trying to render? If FCP is set to unlimited RT, depending on your system and what you are trying to render, Cmd+R might not do anything if your computer can handle the effect in real time. What colour render bar do you have above the clips that you are tying to render? Red or Green?

    its red.

RT is turned to ‘use playback settings’, I have a G5 imac… its quite good. OSX 10.5.3 2.1 GHz PC G5 with 1 GB RAM.

    thanks for your help.

Okay, in FCP, go to Sequence>Render Selection, and make sure that ‘Needs Render” in ticked under the Video options.
FYI, FCP will struggle with only 1GB of RAM, but it shouldn’t effect it’s ability to do Cmd+R renders.
    Cheers,

In the future know that the entire FCP Manual (all the volumes) is included in your software for easily accessible searches.

Help > Final Cut Pro Manual.

If you bring that up and search Render Settings you’ll get an answer about how to set up your Render Settings in about 5 seconds.

I use this all the time actually it’s even faster than posting a question here on the Cow. There are definitely times to come here on the Cow and get those stumpers figured out, but try that Manual search in the future first and see if that doesn’t get you back up and running instantaneously.
