What’s the render sequence for FCP?

    I’m bringing palDV (4×3 SD)clips into a Prores422HQ sequence.

FCP adds a ‘shift fields -1’ filter presumably to correct from the even field sequence of palDV to the odd field sequence of pal. Then I add a slomo speed change, say 30% and get bad interlace problems.

I guess the speed change is rendered before the filter giving me this problem.

What’s the correct workflow for this situation?

FCP 602 on MBP, OSX 10.4.11, qt 7.3.

Thanks as always for your help.

How does it look rendered at full quality on your video monitor? No monitor? How about with your Canvas set precisely at 100%? Often it is a monitoring problem, not a rendering pipeline one.

That being said. If it is a rendering pipeline issue, you can try removing the shift fields filter, then do the speed adjustment. Nest the clip, then place the shift fields filter onto the nested sequence.

    thanks Kevin,

I feared I might have to nest this to get it work properly.

In the absence of an interlaced monitor I had both rendered and viewed at 100%.

Come completion I’ll probably do the slomo with motion’s optical flow but I was surprised to see FCP make such a hash of it.
