FCP Render issues
i am running Final Cut 7 on a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core MacPro with 10GB RAM.
The internal drive i am working from has 700GB of available space.Currently i am working with 7 mins of HDV 1080i50 footage on a timeline with the exact same setting. i have added a number of effects, which create an orange “unlimited” render segment. i have selected the entire segment and gone to render selection (including “unlimited” & “Full”), the progress bar seems to be stuck on 0% but starts counting down from 14 hours.
The render settings are set to render as “ProRes 422”. What could cause this?

Most of us would suggest you transcode to a more useful codec instead of trying to edit HDV.

Hi Dave, how do i convert the footage to ProRes? do i need to place it in a sequence and export it as ProRes? What settings should i choose?
i have already edited the entire programme, so what do i do to replace the footage with the ProRes?

Try the manual and search the index for HDV. There is an entire section on exactly how to prevent the situation are in.
You can easily batch process the media and reconnect or drop the sequence into a new ProRes sequence. You will make your decision based on your experience . tolerance for errors, and time allowed to figure it out.
The process of converting to ProRes gets posted or referenced here almost daily so searching or just scrolling down might reveal a method you want to try,

Unfortunately i do not have the original HDV tapes, so i cannot batch capture the footage. can i just copy and paste the HDV 1080i50 sequence into a ProRes 1440×1080 sequence, or do i need to convert the footage first? if so, what would be the best way to process the entire footage?
