FCP Real Video Wall (12 Plasma Screens)
A company wants me to create a video for their showroom. Their showroom has 12 vertically standing, side-by-side plasma screens (3 vertical plasmas = 1 video screen, meaning 4 videos running side by side).
The goal is to have each “screen” interact with each-other so for instance, have a video start then travel across each “screen”.
In FCP, what would be the easiest way to tackle this?

You will edit your videos in a an offline, custom-sized sequence that includes your 12 nested sequences. This will be a tremendous PITA. It requires superbly careful planning and timing for the shooting and editing. when you’re done, you will recapture to high rez and render out each of the 12 clips individually. You may end up bouncing often between Motion and FCP or After Effects. It’s not difficult (most I’ve done is 3 screens) but it’s all about PreProoductionPlanning and PreVisualization. Lots of storyboards.
The final display will be controlled by a digital signage system. Be sure you do not get involved in that part of the action. While it sounds like it might be fun, it’s a bad place to be.
All you want to do is create 12 separate video clips and cleanly hand them off to the signage geeks.

Well actually I will only have to edit 4 videos, as each grouping of 3 plasmas displays 1 video clip. The signage isn’t a problem in that its just a hard drive that wants 4 video clips (takes the 4 clips, displays each 1 across 3 screens)
