I have a DVCAM tape that I am capturing into FCP via a Sony DSR edit deck. FCP is not reading and capturing the close captioned video line. Is there a preference or code that I have to change to make this happen? The regular video and audio capture just fine. I have looked in the manual and don’t see the answer.

How are you checking to ensure the line 21 is not captured? What makes you certain it’s not there?

I asked some folks at a Closed Captioning facility that we use and was told that most all NLE’s, FCP included, do strip off the CC information. I’ve asked a few other folks I lean on for information about all things FCP and they confirmed the information.

We never bring any CC material into our systems now, we just do tape to tape transfers.

Full size Prores or uncompressed SD (720 x 486) via SDI, composite or component will capture line 21 but the minute you edit it will go away unless you do a wipe to preserve the line 21 info. I don’t think firewire will do that as dv or dv50 will will be 720 x 480 and CC goes away.

Thank you for that info. I am trying to bring the close captioned tape back into my system so that I can burn one or two DVDs from the computer at a time. Does this basically mean that I can never do this?
