  • FCP project size, is it an issue with Mr. Crash?

Posted by Blub06 on December 27, 2007 at 3:39 pm

I did a search and found little about this so I thought I would ask.

I have heard someone say that FCP 6.x becomes crashy when the project size gets big. I guess big means over 300 megs.

Is this true? Is there an ideal or workable project size?

    Thanks

    Chris

This has been true for a long, long time.

Make several projects to keep them smaller and create a final project to bring all of your sequences together.

Shane Ross has a DVD here on the COW that deals with this. It would be a great purchase for you to look at.

I have found 6x to be a bit sluggish around the 24 minute mark and beyond.

For example, you do an insert edit, the cursor moves, but the clip is invisible on the timeline until you hit the left or right arrow keys.

Also just for the record, I had a need to quickly count up how many hours of footage I had captured for someone (it turned out being 16 hours of content) but it was funny because when I dragged it to the timeline final cut gave a message that timelines can’t be more than 12 hours long.
