  • FCP project bug – says render files missing when they aren’t.

Posted by Lisa Salem on August 4, 2010 at 3:17 pm

    Hello

The FCP project on my external harddrive appears to be a bit buggy.

When I last opened the FCP project, it had no bugs. Now, my timelines show some dropped render files, but when I play those apparently dropped files everything works and they’re still rendered with the effects they originally had.

Also, which of the files appear as dropped changes. Sometimes, if I change the viewing-size of the icons on my timeline, the red ‘file missing’ graphics go away and things look normal. But then they show up somewhere else on different files on the timeline, that also still play normally despite the ‘file missing’ signs replacing the thumbnail for the file that’s supposed to be there.

I’ve run disk utility both to repair and to verify and it says there are no problems.

Any idea what the problem might be and how to fix it?

I’m working on a Macbook Pro and using a G-drive 320gb dvBox, using FCP HD 4.5.

Thanks in advance for any help,
    Lisa

Trash your thumbnail cache after saving and quitting fcp.

Thanks Jeremy – this won’t delete all my thumbnails will it and leave me without any? I presume it will generate all the ones it needs again, automatically?

And is it nothing to worry about, or perhaps signs of a bug I should be wary of? I’m about to copy the contents of my harddrive to another harddrive and don’t want to duplicate the problem.

    Thanks again,
    Lisa

[Lisa Salem] “I presume it will generate all the ones it needs again, automatically? “

    Correct.

It’s not something to worry about. FCP has some pretty terrible caching, in that it doesn’t get rid of it. This is one of those problems, but it doesn’t effect your project.
