i recently upgraded to fcp 6.0.5 and snow leopard. Encountering several problems that didn’t exist before:
    – a handful of my video filters no longer wok, warning display “hardware cannot render at requested size and depth” This wasn’t an issue before I upgraded
-Switching from displaying video on my cinema display monitor and back to my timeline on my cinema display monitor takes about 7 seconds “preparing video for display.” Toggling back and forth before was instantaneous before my upgrade.

    my system is:
2 x .66 ghz dual-core intel xeon Mac OS X (10.6.2) 4 gb memory, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT: graphic card

Did you do a clean install of the OS and FCP? And does wonkiness persist with a particular project or all?

Did not do a clean install on either and I get the same results with all project files. The video filter warning is “hardware cannot render at the requested size and depth.” I’m running fcp 6.06 on my old powerbook g4 and this isn’t a problem. Thanks for your response

I think you answered your own question- did not do a clean install.

I would do a clean install, which means completely wiping your hard drive. Barring that, I’d do a complete uninstall of FCP then reinstall. Digital Rebellion has a nifty gizmo that will remove FCP from your hard drive pretty easily.

I wish I had a dollar for every post from someone that didn’t do a clean install, and their system is now broken.

A 5 second search on this forum would yield the proper way to do this, and the pitfalls of those that have not done their homework.

I just tried the term ‘clean install’, and got 1077 hits. ‘Upgrade’ got over 7000.

I read about the Digital Rebellion uninstall gizmo as well. Thanks.

    Mel,
Do yourself a favor and start with a fresh HD. Either buy a new one, or format yours. The Dig/Reb uninstall might have been the way to go before you did the ‘upgrade’, but your system disc is probably corrupt now.
    An uninstall won’t fix that.
