    Hi
After a few years of working in FCP pro almost every day, I will be taking my level 1 certification test followed by level 2 advanced (school) training and then the L2 test. I am extremely familiar with FCP (seriously–I use it nearly every day for hours upon hours–and I was wondering if the user manuels that ship with the program are in depth and detailed enough to ace the test when studied. Or is there a book out there that does a good job in covering the exam? –I am not looking for test answers, just the best source of info. I looked at the Peach Pit Press book, and it seems like it is based off the manuals. Any ideas/comments??
    Thanks

It’s all in the manuals, however the tests will be based on what’s in the Certified Book. (a bunch fewer pages to study!)

I’m with Jerry… I took the level 1 course at NAB in April using the Apple Pro Training Series book (Final Cut Pro HD), and it follows the book very very closely. So I would have to say that any of the Apple Certified books will work nicely. By the way, in the lower right corner, there is an Apple Cerifed logo and below that will tell you what level of certification that book is for. And from my own experience… I thought I knew everything about Final Cut Pro before I went, but I found out that I didn’t know it all and learned lots of great tips and pointers to help my editing.

I just got Level 1 certified last Nov and it was great. However, I would do some research on the Level 2 and 3 certification if I were you. I registered for Level 2 at the DV Expo and found out that Apple changed the curriculum. They split level 2 into 2 pieces. The new level 2 is on editing. Level 3 is on effects.

What is new this time is that Level 2 is no longer really about how to use Final Cut but more on the aesthetics of editing. I ended up getting a refund from the class after the first day because I only learned a few shortcuts all day long. My company does marketing, training, and educational videos. We don’t need to know how to edit a comedy scene or a fight scene. I was completely disappointed but my boss was happy that I didn’t waste his money. 🙂

If you do want to know basic editing techniques and aesthetics, then it would probably be worth it. Just know that you won’t really learn as much about FCP as in level 1. By the end of the day, I realized that I could have been sitting there with any nonlinear editing program and could have followed along just fine. Too bad.

[Jerry Hofmann] “however the tests will be based on what’s in the Certified Book.”

    Hi.

I’m considering taking these courses, but it doesn’t seem to be any in Norway (or scandinavia for that matter)

    What/Where is the “Certified bool?”
