  • FCP Preferred Still Image Format?

Posted by Denzel Worthington on April 14, 2008 at 8:23 am

    Hi All,

I prefer not to use still images and I am “wrapping” them into movies in QT Pro.

But in a machine without a hardware card is there a preferred format?

    TIF
    PNG
    TGA etc.

I need a format the can have an alpha.

I am using PNG at the moment…but I am just wondering if there is a preferred format that might be faster to process?

    Thanks,
    Denzel.

I have long been a firm believer in using PCTs when in need of an alpha channel for stills. I just recently worked on a project in which all of the stills were prepped as PNGs and I decided to give it a try. I experienced slower renders, occasional crashes. I was working with hundreds of stills (all PNGs).

It may just be me, but I still prefer PCTs.
