  FCP playing jerkily in reverse; odd refusal to accept dissolve

  I upgraded to OS10.3.9 last wk, am on FCP4.5; problems started: lots of crashes (think have fixed that) but have problem that clips/edits play fine from the timeline in the canvas & external tv monitor, in forward, BUT play jerkily like 18fps or a slide show when reversing thru the timeline. Not too many layers, only a few dissolves, no sound. Any ideas on how to fix? Turning off the external tv monitor makes the canvas work, but my boss refuses to accept this option.

  I trashed prefs, restarted, reset prefs, etc.

  SHould I go back to 10.3.8? Any tips on how to go ‘down’ in OS?
