    A question for the pasture:

We’ve just purchased a new Mac 8 Core 2.26 with the standard 6GB of RAM and NVidia GT 120 512MB graphics card.
I’ve been able to set up clusters for Compressor with 8 instances, and the system flies. (Full load in Activity Monitor) I’m more than happy with it’s performance. (I am aware that it recommended to have 1GB of RAM per Instance, but the difference in speed between 6 and 8 instances seems negligible to me.)

In FCP and Motion, when rendering any effect, transition etc. the activity monitor shows a minimal load spread equally over all cores (between 5-10% per core, sometimes briefly peaking to 75% on a single core). Does anyone have any tips as to how I can force FCP and/or Motion to use more of the processing power available on the system? I know both apps can specify RAM amounts and I have both apps set to 90% from their respective preference menus.
Any suggestions of tweaks, third party apps etc that could help juice these processors would be appreciated!! Someone mentioned that TechTool Pro might be able to assist me, any thoughts?

    All the best,

    Simon
