My FCP is in French so please excuse the language.
I’ve just finished filming a feature film using the camera Panasonic HVX200 and am busy sorting out the rushes. I’m using simplified configuration Panasonic DVCPRO HD/ DVCPRO HD – 1080i50 – all debits.
When I import the images using “list and transfer” the compression of the images is DVCPRO HD 1080p25, apparently with debits 13,7 Mo/sec.
When I export a sequence of these images on QT, the codec of sequence is DVCPRO HD (1080i50), Integer (Little Endian), Timecode.
    Is this normal?
If I use P2LogPro to import, the compression of the images is noted as DVCPRO HD 1080i50 with debits 14,1 Mo/sec.
Is there some compression going on when I import the images using “list and transfer”?

    Hi David,
Don’t worry about the Big-Little Endian. is just a little difference about how the audio is wrote in Mac and in Window. Both system can cope with both formats.

It seems that FCP is making your tagging your wrapped Quicktime movies as 1080p25. Did you shoot 1080p25? If you are editing in a 1080i50 timeline, then yes this is normal. The name of the codec is 1080i50 and you can choose to render p or i.

No, it’s a straight file transfer with a rewrap to Quicktime. Are you bringing in all audio channels using Log and Transfer?

….and no I’m not always importing the audio.

Well there’s your difference in file size as I bet P2 Log Pro is transferring audio.

So, what you need to do is use Log and Transfer, then in your timeline, make sure you setup a sequence using the 1080i25 DVCPro HD setting (I think you called it a ‘simplified configuration’). THEN when you make a new timeline, make sure to change the “field dom” in your sequence from upper to none. Bring up the sequence settings by hitting command-0.

Is it normal I see some glitches when I play the sequence in FCP but not (I think) when I export it?

How are you monitoring your footage and what do you mean by ‘glitches’?

[david lowe] “During one shot, panning on a running actor, the background flickered spasmodically”

Can you upload a full rez version of a few seconds of that shot? I can check it out on a monitor for you.

I’m monitoring for the moment on the video screen (waiting for a second screen or monitor).
During one shot, panning on a running actor, the background flickered spasmodically (and not always) rather in the way that a faulty television does.

More importantly perhaps, when I analyze the plan in tools, the images imported via FCP are given the following properties
    Dimension 1440×1080
Codec DVCPRO HD 1080p25 de medium quality

For the images imported via P2LOG Pro
    Dimensions 1920×1080
Codec DVCPRO HD 1080i50 maximum quality

Is this a codec for the images imported or just for the reading of the imported images?
Are my images the same quality via the 2 different types of importation.

The man from P2 LOG PRO saysthe QuickTime codec used to decode the P2 material is the same. In
other words, there’s one codec that does all the 25/50 formats.
