FCP or quicktime can’t export an H264 codec at a set Kbit/sec rate of 2000

Is anyone else having this problem?

So I’ve read the compression guide on how to make the best file possible to upload on youtube. They say to export it as an MPEG4 in the H264 codec with a set Kbit/sec rate of 2000 if the video is under 6 minutes to keep the file right at the 100mb limit.

So when I go to do it. It starts and works on it until it gets around 70% complete and then in Quicktime it fails on the export and in Final Cut it crashes the whole program.

So I tried just exporting a quicktime movie in the H264 codec instead of an mpeg4 right out of Final Cut with a set Kbit/sec rate of 2000 and it crashes again.

So I retried exporting a quicktime movie in the H264 codec instead of an mpeg4 right out of Final Cut with the Kbit/sec rate set to AUTOMATIC and it did it.

That is fine but I want to figure out why it can’t handle a set Kbit/sec rate of 2000 so I can make the file is large as possible for youtube instead of the automatic rate.

And I’ve tried trashing my preferences and repairing permissions.

Man. Oh Man! This is frustrating. I just want to export a simple file!!

I’m running FCP 6.0.2 and the latest Quicktime(7.4, I think)

Try Compressor. Export a quicktime movie with self contained unchecked and make yourself a new compressor preset.

Hey Jeremy. Thanks for the tip. I tried the quicktime version of the H264 codec conversion and it failed 3X. However the Ipod/iPhone version finally worked. So thanks a lot. I’d love to get the FCP and Quicktime exports figured out but this will do for now.

H264 definitely does over 2000 kb per sec as I have done it myself.

If it keeps failing at the same point, I would delete all of your render files, rerender, then reexport and reencode.

A .mov, yes, can’t say that I have done an mp4.
