  • FCP on the new 17″ MacBook – Matte or LED Screen?

Posted by John Leblanc on January 22, 2009 at 1:59 am

I’m purchasing the new unibody 17″ MacBook for editing FCP. I’m using the MacBook screen as my primary monitoring screen. No external monitor. And I’m exporting mostly for the web and for DVD.

Should I choose the new LED screen or the Matte option? I’ve looked at the 15″ LED and I’m a bit scared of the high contrast ratio. Perhaps the blacks will be too black. I’m told that Apple got pushback from Pro users about this very issue, which is why they’re offering the matte option.

Which would you choose if you were buying one?

    Thanks.

I assume you mean glossy as both the anti glare and the glossy use LED displays.

It really is a personal choice. I myself like the glossy but I know people that hate the glossy.

    It’s all personal preferance.

Have you ever heard of anybody wanting a matte finish iphone? No

I have a new MacBookPro 15″ and using FCP on it is not a problem.
If you are doing serious colour correction then you need an external monitor, if you are spending hours and hours on it editing then you should have a MacPro.

[Peter Wiggins] “Have you ever heard of anybody wanting a matte finish iphone?”

Yes I actually know several people that want a matte finish iphone. Thats why there are screen protecters that have a matte finish on them.

    Hi peter,
your 15″ MBP did not have the option of a matte screen, a direct side by side comparison of
glossy vs. matte is what is needed.

    Cheers
