  • FCP not seeing Matrox MX02 Mini

    Hey Everyone,

I’ve tried reading some of the other posts but didn’t find anything that seemed to work. I’m using FCP v7.0.3 on a Mac Pro desktop. I just bough the Matrox mini and hooked it up to my Sony Trinitron monitor (SD) via analog component. My sequence is 1920×1080 23.98 H264 material.

In the capture setting I seem to have Matrox options but I’m not capturing. When I try to view externally it just shows the built in FCP views. I’m running the Matrox 1.9.2 drivers.

Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Everything is plugged in right. I tried all and single frames and dont get any type of picture. Is there something I haven’t done in the set up properly? I just bought it so I’m assuming I didn’t do something right. I know my monitor at the moment isn’t HD (and that’s ok_ I just want to see a picture out, or even a still is fine.

    Thanks in advanced.

Uninstall them. Download and run the latest Matrox Mini 2.0 drivers. In that process, make sure that after you install, you unplug the mini from power for 5 seconds, then reconnect.

I tried but noticed the 2.0 is for snow leopard only. I’m still on 10.5.8. I did unplug and restart the Matrox and now FCP from the view menu has the Matox listed but it’s grey out and starts with the word “missing” in brackets.

Thanks, just did that and still the greyed out shows up with “missing” in the front. I’m sure I’m doing something wrong with one little setting. Just not sure sure which.

Why are you editing in a h.264 sequence? Are you trying to create problems for yourself?

I had this same issue earlier this summer and Shane was very instrumental in helping me get mine up and running. I have a Macbook Pro though.

Once your sure you have your Matrox box hooked up correctly and you have the correct Drivers installed, open FCP.

You sequence and capture have to match. For me, I have selected: Matrox MXO2 Mini- Apple ProRes 422 720p 29.97 48 khz for both Sequence and Capture.

Device Control Preset – FW NYSC Basic

Video Playback (This is why I wasn’t seeing anything at first. Once I switched this, FCP was able to see my Matrox Box) I have selected: Matrox MXO2 Mini-720p 59.94 YUV 10 bit (1280×720) Yours may be different since you are working with 1920×1080 content. Just select that codec in the list.

Audio Playback: Matrox MXO2 Mini Audio Output (I ended up changing this so my audio now plays out of my monitors or head phone jack but its not in sync. I may change it back so its in sync with the video.

Try that and see if that works for you.

I am using a HDTV as my external monitor and the only thing I can’t seem to figure out still is how to properly calibrate it. I followed the manual and did exactly what it said to do and after I calibrated it, the colors didn’t look all that vibrant as I know they should. I still have to play around with that aspect of it.
