  • FCP not placing transitions on Text?

Posted by Madskillzman on May 5, 2005 at 9:36 pm

I suppose this is cause iim a complete newb! But i just started learning FCP. Got all summer ahead of me. Anyways, i cant get the transitions to work when going from Text to video. They simply just dont apply. Even if i go to the render options and render the text, still refuses to work. How it doesnt work is basically when i drag it, the transition lasts something like 3 frames, and if i try to make it longer, it just makes a thud noise.

    Thanks in advance anyone.

Do you have handles? Are you using Title 3d?

The reason that your transitions are only a couple of frames in length and you keep hearing that “thud” noise is that you hvae reached the end of the media. Make the duration of the footage in your sequence shorter and try again. If you need the titles to be longer you can change the default duration of all titles created in FCP in Preferences. If the transition is a simple disolve, i would recommend just keyframing the opacity.
You can also change the length of any transition by ctrl-click or double clicking it in the timeline.
    good luck

Yes, you can (for the TITLE duration).

But, I’m guessing you’re trying to make a “CENTER on edit” (or “END on edit”) dissolve going from the title to the HEAD of a clip that does NOT have any PRE-handle frames.

Just double-click on the dissolve icon where it sits on the timeline (it will pop up into the Viewer window).

Then choose to make your dissolve “START on Edit” (the little triangle on the LEFT of the three at the top of the window.)

That will use only the “handle” of the Title to start dissolving over to the video clip.
