  • FCP Multicam comes in with wrong timing

Posted by Mike Jeffs on October 3, 2011 at 3:23 pm

We have edited a 9 camera Concert in FCP 7 when i export the XML and bring it into Resolve, all of the clips come in but with the wrong timing. the edits and transitions are at the right times but the clips are all wrong times.

Heres the workflow we used. 9 cameras shot and recorded to external recorders at xdcam 422 50mbs. Proxies were made of each angle into Apple pro res Proxy. The FCP sequence was set to XDcam 422 50 mbs. the proxies were multicam and edited. Transitions and other croping was also done. When the multi cam edit was completed we colapsed the multicam and we relinked to the hi res media. We made some fine tune adjustments and then segmented each song into its own FCP sequence. From that individual sone sequence we have exoported a XML. In Resolve we imported the XML and pointed to the hi res media for the media pool.

is there a know issue with Resolve and Multicam like there was with COLOR.

Any help would be very much appciated

    hi mike!

did not have this issue yet, but last time i needed to do the same thing for a music vid, i just rendered the onlined material as one clip. then loaded it with an edl from fcp into resolve (preconform option).

    hope that helps

I’m not quite sure what you are meaning. Are you saying i should Render the FCP sequence, then export a EDL. Then in Resolve import the EDL using preconform? if that is the case what do i use as the Media pool?

I’ve complained about this earlier last week. Hopefully BMD will fix multi cam support on the next update.

One work around will be to re-edit each shot as a regular edit. FCP) 1st, select all edits, and right click, hitting “collapse edits”

Then matchback each video edit hitting “F” key, then “F10”. That should match each edit with a clean version of each cut. XML as usual, and you should have better success.

While it isn’t ideal this work around “Works”. the only thing i have found though is any effects or croping don to a clip needs to copy and then after it is replaced they need to be paste back in. but this is better then the alternitives.

    Thanks

He means that you should export a quicktime file of the entire timeline. Then export an EDL (of course reduce the timeline to one track first). Put this long video file in the Media Pool and preconform with the EDL. This works very well, we use it all the time where I work, avoiding all kinds of surprises in the timeline.

thx hans petter, that is exactly what i meant.

of course, all the fx are “baked in” then. so if you have a lot of dissolves, this maybe won’t work for you.

I have exactly the same issue. Exporting xml from multicam with XDCAMHD422 rushes cause wrong timing in resolve, but also in premiere with xml fcp import feature.
    Here’s the behavior:
    – Export condensed multicam cause wrong timing both in premiere and resolve.
    – Export developed multicam work well in premiere, unfortunately it support only 4 cam so cam 5 is replaced by cam 1 etc… not a solution.
    – Export developed multicam cause wrong timing in resolve
I have no filters, no transition and no synth in my timeline, just 1h30 with 10 cam.
Media manager crash when trying to open it…
