My client requested an MPEG4 HD file for a video server he’s using for playback at a trade show.

I’ve tried exporting both a Reference and a self-contained movie out of FCP DVCProHD720/59.94. I tried using compressor to make the MPEG4 using the preset, but on the final MPEG4 movie, the audio doesn’t stay in sync? Any idea why?

Also, creating the MPEG4 out of FCP using QT Conversion looks very pixellated on gradients.

Do you have a mix of sample rates in your timeline? (CD tracks are 44.1k unless you convert them)

Make sure all audio that does not match your sequence sample rate is rendered (or better yet, convert the file in Quicktime, itunes, or Compressor. Even if it plays in real time in FCP.

Wacky things can also happen if you use MP3’s in your timeline. Make sure you convert everything to stereo aiff 48k for best results.

I don’t think there are any audio formats being converted, they are all 48K. But, what’s really weird is even if I make the timeline into a stand-alone self-contained movie (Which plays in perfect sync) that shouldn’t matter.

And like I mentioned, if I make the MPG4 directly from the timeline using QT conversion, no sync issues, but the video has unacceptable compression artifacts. The Compressor video is much cleaner. Aarrrgh.
