  • FCP matching progressive footage with an interlaced sequence?

Posted by Davide Marchesi on June 10, 2012 at 1:32 pm

    Hi everyone,

I have been working on a project with HD footage (1920×1080, 25 fps, compressed in Apple ProRes 422 HQ). I am 100% positive the footage is progressive, but when i drag it into my timeline and have FCP match the sequence settings with the footage settings, FCP sets the sequence to aspect ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9). The other settings match the clip settings regularly (1920×1080 frame size, 25fps, apple pro res etc). Do you have any idea why FCP sets my sequence to interlaced? If I don’t change my sequence settings, the progressive footage will eventually be exported as interlaced, am I right?
Would I just need to change my aspect ratio into custom 16:9? How can I be sure that my sequence is set to progressive?

    Thank you

[Davide Marchesi] “FCP sets the sequence to aspect ratio: HDTV 1080i (16:9)”
That’s just the aspect ratio and is the same for 1080 wether interlaced or progressive.
What you have to look is the sequence field order. If progressive, will show field order NONE.
