FCP Mappings // FCP X
Posted by Leonid Nekrasov on August 24, 2012 at 8:04 amHello,
FCP Mappings is a great way to transfer Metadata from CatDV to FCP 7. Is there a matchable way to do it with FCP X?
I only have seen, that the Notes Field can be transmitted. But the keyword collection not.
Thx and Regards
Leo

September 4, 2012 at 10:02 pmUnfortunately that’s really down to limitations in the FCP X metadata model. Although FCPX has range markers and a clip notes field, it doesn’t really have general clip metadata fields in the way that FCP7 does. If Apple add them at some point (and expose them via the FCPX XML file) then we’d be very happy to add support for those in CatDV.

September 22, 2012 at 1:16 pmAs far as I’m aware FCP-X does indeed have metadata fields. In fact it has loads of them and even the option to create your own fields and custom field views.
Click on any clip and click on the ‘Info’ tab on the far right, next the audio and video tabs. At the bottom of this box are options to switch views, create custom views and fields.
My big issue with these fields are that none of these fields appear to be searchable (either globally or individually), so it renders their useful pretty close to zero.
If they were searchable it would be fantastic to be able to export clips from CatDV to FCP-X and map metadata from the CatDV into existing or custom designed fields.

October 27, 2012 at 11:25 amYAY! FCP X 10.0.6 appears to now search existing and custom fields as well as file names and the updated XML 1.2 is said to allow import and export of this information.
Here’s hoping external systems like CatDV will start to integrate….

November 3, 2012 at 8:49 pmGood news – CatDV 10 includes full support for importing and exporting custom metadata fields to and from FCP 10.0.6! As 10.0.6 was still in beta when 10.0.0 was released you need to go to Preferences > Final Cut & Sequences and check the “Export FCPX XML files: Use latest version” option to use this feature.
