No I mean negative black. When I delivered our first test episode, our blacks were dropping as low as -7. I used the Levels filter to ensure all blacks stayed at 0.
With Final Touch HD I can set the ceiling and floor prior to starting so I don’t even have to think about that any longer.

August 15, 2006 at 8:16 pmI didn’t know you were working with Final Touch! I am extremely interested in talking with you about using FT. I need to leave soon but I hope to pick up on this discussion tommorow. I have been specializing in color correcting documentaries for 20 some odd years with whatever tools I have had at hand. Just once I would like to have the real deal at my fingertips!

I didn’t even know that was possible? Since the waveform bottoms out at 0 how are you supposed to tell if you have super black? And I’m almost sure even one of the Apple training manual says the blacks cannot be lowered past 0 thru the CC 3Way.

If you look at the scope, the SCALE bottoms out at 0, but not the actual waveform readings. If you have super black, you will clearly see the blacks dip below 0 on the scale.
I had no idea this was possible until I started working in HD and doing tests with Quality Control. One network I have specs for actually allows the blacks to bottom out at -3 according to their specs, but most of them require blacks to bottom out at 0.

I can see the scale goes down to -10 (after I enlarge the scopes). But when I apply the CC 3way to brings my levels down, they are crushed flat at the 0 line. I can’t make it go into the negatives no matter how I manipulate the level sliders. So how do you get super blacks?
