FCP Log and Transfer Stream Error – Intermittently.
Reading all the other Log and Transfer posts, my situation still stumps and baffles me. In using FCP 7, I have successfully completed log and transfer files from my Sony NX5U AVCHD files. Now however I have run into this Stream error situation with odd results. Day 1: First 2 clips were 1 hr each.. captured wonderfully on Mac Pro. Day 2: Then I tried to capture the next 3 – 30 minute clips taken with same camera and no change to settings on the following day. The result being that of the stream error. So I tried to log and transfer the same 3 clips on my MacBook Pro with success. Day 3: I try to capture 2 more 1-hour clips and now neither Mac Pro or MacBook Pro will log and transfer resulting only in stream error? Any Ideas what may cause this. I don’t believe I’ve change anything on the computer or camera.. why will it capture some files, but not others? Any help greatly appreciated….

I don’t know what could cause it, but I know of an app that might help get the footage into FCP. ClipWrap2. It was what I used when FCP failed to import footage from that camera. Early versions of FCP 7 had issues with it. 7.0.3 fixed many of them, but not all. So make sure you are running 7.0.3 first off. And if you are, then try ClipWrap2.

Thank you Shane.. I will definitely check out clipwrap to get my edit underway, but I’m still hoping to find a resolution to this irritating problem.

is this coming from the camera media or a hard drive?
How full is your scratch drive?
What codec are you logging and transferring to? ProRes? HQ? LT?

The AVCHD folder/files were copied from the camera hard drive to both an internal and external drive. I’ve tried reading from both drives and writing to both drives. The scratch drive has 1.3TB, but I’ll check to make sure I had the external drive (eSATA) set. I’m not at the house currently and I’m not sure which codec. However the codec has not changed since the successful run and the errored run.. I would love to learn how all the above effect the transfer.. thanks Jeremy!!
