For some reason FCP keeps playing back music tracks wrong. I edit something with music it’s fine. Then I output and the music track is cut up or ends early. When I go back into the timeline it is still playing wrong but when I click into the track the track is fine. I have found that taking the music track off the harddrive and reloading it solves the problem but this is really getting frustrating and I am afraid that something is going to be sent to a client with mistakes. This only happens with music tracks. I use the mixdown tool before I output. Does anyone know why this is happening?

    Thanks,
    Rich

The first thing to always try is to Quit FCP, Restart the Mac, Open your FCP project and try again.

    Next:
THE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions.

A great way to do this is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP (Pro) & FCE (Express) and a new one for FCP 5.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

    https://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
    or

This is one FCP tip that has helped in solving hundreds of “odd” problems.

People will tell you that a mixdown will solve this issue, and frankly, i find them wrong. What you need to do is go into the render manager (which is located in the tools menu) and delete your audio render files for that sequence. More than likely, you have copy/pasted some old render files that FCP has lost track of and is screwing up your audio playback. Once the render files are deleted, re-render and you should be good.

    Hope this helps.

Also remember to check your number of Real-Time audio tracks in the User Settings. The higher number of tracks you want it play, the lower the quality and more anamolies you’ll hear. To get the best audio, BEFORE you audio-mixdown and/or RE-Render all your files, set the real-time audio tracks to 2 at High. Render your audio and then if that doesn’t work, do an audio-mixdown.
