[Matt Campbell] “Generally speaking, is it possible to have 24p footage recorded in 60i at 1080.”

I doubt it that’s what you have. There are some cameras that fake 24p using some type of hocus pocus though, but I doubt you have that, though anything is possible nowadays.

Depends on the camera and sometimes the codec. In tapeless dvcpro hd, you can only shoot 24p with pulldown. But in tapeless avc-I (with same camera) you can shoot 1080psf 23.976.

Also, I think we have covered this in earlier posts, but ProRes carries a field order metadata flag. If it’s set incorrectly (and the file was recorded progressively) apps might see it incorrectly. But all it is is metadata so you can change it and be done. No transcoding needed.

Thanks David. Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but I think I’m all good now with the footage I have. I was mainly just asking a general question for the future, just in case. But appreciate the response.

Jeremy, I do remember that previous post about the metadata flag and just wanted to be sure. Also wouldn’t just steping through the footage frame by frame help to determine. Since I see clean frames, I was certain it was 24p. I did not see 3 frames then 2 frames with fields.

“In tapeless dvcpro hd, you can only shoot 24p with pulldown. But in tapeless avc-I (with same camera) you can shoot 1080psf 23.976.”

Don’t you mean in a DVCPro HD TAPE workflow. Like the Varicam, 24p is recorded at 60p with pulldown and upon capture with FCP, FCP removes it for a 23.98 clip. Sound right? And with tapeless, you can, on some cameras, shoot 24PN or native 24p. Correct?

Thanks again gettlemen. You 2 are always helpful and really know your $&#%!

Hey, Matt. Varicam shoots 720p. We are taking about 1080. In dvcpro hd (tape or tapeless) that codec can only record 24p with pulldown (normal or advanced). So no matter what, if working in 1080 your dvcpro hd signal will get recorded at 29.97 and you will have to remove the pulldown depending on how it was shot.

Pertaining to your fields question, ad long as you gonyhrpighbframe by frame and don’t see any fields OR DUPE FRAMES you can pretty much be comfortable it was handled correctly.
