FCP import photos
I downloaded images from the NASA website, they look great in Preview, but terrible (blurry, etc) when I import them into FCP. Would really appreciate ideas on this. Thank you!

What are your sequence settings? No matter how nice and sharp those pictures are, they take on the attributes of the sequence settings you are using. So if you use DV, they will render to DV, and look like poo.

Thank you, Shane. I did change my sequence settings and that worked, sort of. The fotos look great in the viewer, but still blurry on my edit screen. When I take them into motion and reduce the size, they regain their clarity, but then are really small.

First off…what did you change the settings to?
Second…the Canvas isn’t designed to display a sharp image. It just is designed to show you what you are working with. Proper montoring would be an IO Device (Like the Matrox MXO2 Mini or Decklink Intensity Pro) to an HDTV or broadcast monitor.
You cannot judge the quality of the image in the Canvas.

Thanks Shane! I changed the sequence setting to Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ) the setting I normally use for editing HD. I do have a Sony HD monitor which is working fine for everything else. So it sounds as if I have a size issue? The files look good small but not full screen size? Any way to fix that? Thank you!!!

What are the dimensions of the stills? what are your sequence dimensions?

Thank you, Shane! There are several sizes available for download. The largest is 946 X 710 pixels, 13.139 X 986 doc size, 72 res. The smallest is 800 X 600 pixel, 11.111 X 8.333 doc size, 72 res. My sequence settings are Pixel HD 1440 X 1080, same for frame size and aspect ratio. The two other foto sizes are somewhere in between. But the ones I have been trying to work with are the smaller ones.
