I have tried everything to get fcp to capture from a sony hdv cam.. it detects the cam but when it goes to capture it shows blank and or it says the time line is not set to the format your captureing… finally i changed everyting i could think and suddenly it detected it (i wasnt sure what i did) but then it would only capture each shot seperately as a file.. after one tape I had 100s of files.. (in a way this seemed kind of neat) but not for this project..

anyone know exactly what setting i should select..

    appreciate any suggestions

In the capture window there is a check box for making a new file for each camera start/stop. Uncheck that box. It may still make some individual files if it detects a start/stop as a break in timecode.

I prefer individual files as it allows me to toss bad takes and false starts.
